Summary

/ / Biography

Born about 3 BC at Salamis in the island of Cyprus , Barnabas was not one of the twelve apostles. However, the Acts of the Apostles ascribe to him the title at large, as in Paul. See Acts 2:14 p.m.: "Informed of the thing, the apostles Paul and Barnabas tore their clothes ... . Barnabas's cousin Mark the Evangelist. He had put all his property at the disposal of the apostles. His name, Joseph, he was nicknamed by the apostles Barnabas, which means "son of encouragement" (Acts 4:36) Works?

  • According to Tertullian , in De Pudicitia (20), Barnabas was the author of the Epistle to the Hebrews. This award is not without some plausibility. On the one hand, among the possible hypotheses , it is the only back to an author of antiquity and also the entire epistle purports to be a word of exhortation or encouragement, referring to nickname of the apostle? (Cf. Heb 13:22).
  • It is also traditionally associated with the Epistle of Barnabas , although modern scholars believe it is more likely that this epistle was written in Alexandria in 130 years.
  • He was also awarded the Acts which are apocryphal , and a Gospel of Barnabas , probably apocryphal often attributed to Muslims that they reject and deny its authenticity (it contradicts the stories of the Koran and the history of Mary such that it is recounted in the Muslim tradition).
