Baltica

Baltica in the super-continent minor Laurussia the Devonian

Baltica is the name of a palaeocontinent , former shield , also known as Fenno-Baltic Sarmatia or shield. It includes current Scandinavia , Baltics and southern coast of the Baltic Sea , northwest of Russia (with Moscow), Belarus and northern Ukraine.

Originally Archean (including rocks found in Finland ), Baltica is defined as a continent where it is separated from the supercontinent Pannotia in the late Proterozoic. At the end of the Ordovician , the terrane of Avalonia collided with Baltica. Baltica and Avalonia collided with Laurentia in the Silurian to form the continent Laurussia during the Caledonian Orogeny.
