Plaque Australian is a tectonic plate of the lithosphere of the planet Earth. Its area is 1.13294 steradians. There are generally associated plates Kermadec , and Tonga , to Niuafo'ou of Woodlark , the Solomon Sea , the Maoke and Bird's Head.
It covers:
- the whole of Australia , southern New Guinea , north-west New Zealand , the New Caledonia and Fiji ;
- south-eastern Indian Ocean , the Tasman Sea , the Coral Sea , the Gulf of Carpentaria , the Arafura Sea and Timor Sea.
The Australian plate is in contact with the plates Indian , Somalian , Antarctic , Pacific , the Kermadec , and Tonga , to Niuafo'ou of Futuna , the Balmoral Reef , the reef Conway , the New Hebrides , of Woodlark , of Maoke , of Bird's Head of the Banda Sea , the Timor , the Sunda and Burma.
