In 1951 , the operating license and distribution was assigned to the "TELMA" which began broadcasting in 1954. It was a fleeting experience that will last only a few months. From its inception, 2M presented a unique experience which helped garner many achievements. In 1988 , the company Soread signed with the State a concession contract allowing it to program and broadcast of television throughout the country. This is a public service concession, and as such it has obligations for the concessionaire (Soread) and forcing (the state).
The first commercial TV station and Morocco (but also in Africa and the Arab world ) began March 4, 1989, following the signing of an operating agreement and a specification in 1988 between the Moroccan state and Soread. It broadcasts in encrypted with two beaches in the clear. Like all the pay channels, it wants elitist. A first selection is made by the public via the monthly portfolio. 2M was managed by the ONA (Omnium Nord Africain) first private industrial group in Africa in association with the French channel TF1 , SOFIRAD, the Canadian group VIDEORONet Moroccan institutional investors.
Emitting Ain Sebaa ( Casablanca ), the second television channel Moroccan had set a goal to achieve by 1994 the 250,000 subscribers. At launch, the channel has generated genuine enthusiasm.
2M has indeed evolved into a complex cultural environment. The chain has suffered from the development of piracy and unfair competition. In 5 years, 2M has changed considerably. It is more internationally oriented thematic channel originally conceived, but a general channel, proximity to express even more clearly its difference, its specificity against other image sources.
After seven years of operation, the principal shareholder of the Soread, ONA, withdrew from the management of the chain was in financial difficulties. The state signed the concession has regained control of 2M 19 June 1996 with a 68% equity. The financial turnaround of the company managing the chain is going through the assistance of funds for the National Audiovisual Promotion, boosting advertising market and the commercialization of encryption products accessories.
Al Maghribiya
Al Maghribiya , as its name suggests, disseminates dominated by domestic production. In a first phase, this statement translates into making a program schedule constructed from the best programs and the Moroccan TV 2M.
Grid Maghribia is not an assembly program of the two chains, it is the result of an editorial position defined to meet the particularity and objectives of this channel.
Medi 1 TV
First broadcast only via satellite since its inception on 1 December 2006 under the name Medi 1 Sat, the chain was originally a French-Moroccan. In 2008 the shares were repurchased and French chain becomes entirely Moroccan. On October 30, 2010 at 21:20, the chain began his broadcast on the analogue terrestrial network in Morocco, known as Medi 1 TV. Diffusion on DTT is scheduled for later.
Objective
Achieving competitiveness at national and international
The transition to air broadcasting programs 2M, from 10 January 1997 , is an important event in all respects. Repositioning was based on three concepts: entertainment (movies, drama, serials), proximity (such as news, debates ...) and the curiosity and knowledge (documentaries and magazines). This channel, now received by nearly 70% of the population, considerably enhances the Moroccan audiovisual field and contributes more to the opening of Morocco to the world.
The new policy decision aims to clarify the role of 2M in this configuration utility:
- Clearly define its mission and positioning in this configuration utility.
- Develop a specification in a logic of complementarity and efficiency.
- Stop funding sources.
