The oldest community in the city was founded in 1867 , three years after the fire of the city total. She is originally from the most famous and oldest synagogue in Atlanta dating back to 1875 and known as The Temple reformed rite. His full name is "Hebrew Benevolent Congregation Temple" and is located on the main street of Atlanta ( Peachtree Street ). On 12 October 1958 , she was referred by a bomb. A fifty sticks of dynamite exploded and seriously damaged it the building without causing any casualties. President Eisenhower declared: Can you imagine the anger would have expressed our first president today if he had read the news of a bomb attack against a synagogue. I think we all share the feeling of horror that robbers may want to desecrate the shrine of any religion. The attack was claimed by a racist and antisemitic. At the trial that followed, the suspects were acquitted.
The synagogue and the attack is mentioned in the drama of Alfred Uhry and the film Miss Daisy , who received the Oscar for Best Picture in 1989.
Ahavath Achim Synagogue (which can result in Brotherly Love) built in 1958 rite of " conservative "(or Masorti) is superbly located in the middle of uptown Buckhead on Peachtree Battle Avenue. She comes from a community founded in 1887. This would be the third largest community Masorti United States.
