Antitheism

The anti-theism (or as anti-theism) is active opposition to theism. The etymological roots of the word is Greek: 'anti-' and 'theismos'.

The term may have different interpretations, in a secular , it refers to direct opposition to organized religion or belief in a god , while in a theist , it refers to opposition to a god or specific gods.

Summary

Opposition to theism

An anti-theism is defined

Greg Epstein (fr) , of Harvard University , defines "If atheism is a lack of belief in a god, anti-theism is the active search of the worst aspects of faith in a god, in order to make a representation of that religion. The anti-theism seeks to blame and to extract the believers of their religion, highlighting the stupidity of their beliefs in a god. "

The anti-theism is claimed by those who regard theism as dangerous and destructive. An example of this view appears in the Work Letters to a Young Contrarian (2001), in which Christopher Hitchens wrote: "I am not only an atheist, I'm as anti-theism, I am not saying simply that all religions are versions of the same lie, but I maintain that the influence of churches, and the effects of religious belief, are genuinely harmful '" .

Opposition to God

Another definition of anti-theism is the opposition to the sacred and the divine rather than a general opposition to the beliefs of one or the gods.

The Chambers Dictionary defines the antitheism three different ways: "doctrine antagonistic to theism, 'negation' of the existence of a god; opposition to God." The "opposition to God" does not mean that antitheism believe in a deity, but for various reasons, the existence of supreme being would be bad or immoral.

Definitions of the oldest anti-theism exist, such as the French Catholic philosopher Jacques Maritain (1953), for whom anti-theism is "an active struggle against all that may sound like God." The theologian Flint (1877) wrote in his book Anti-theistic Theories , that anti-theism was any opposition to what he saw as theism, namely, the "belief in Heaven and Earth, everything home life and the continuity of the Kingdom and Will of the Supreme Being, uncreated, omnipotent, omniscient, perfect, distinct and independent from what He created. " He wrote:

To discuss theories that have nothing in common except their opposition to theism, it is necessary to have a term to describe them. Antitheism appears to be an appropriate word. This here is more comprehensive than the term atheism. It applies to any system that is opposed to theism. It includes, in fact, atheism ... but only the branch of atheism which is antitheism theories. Polytheism is not atheism, since it does not deny that there is a deity, but it may be considered if anti-theism denies that there is only one god. Pantheism is not atheism, then he admits that there may be a god, but it can be seen as anti-theism, since it denies that God can have its attributes are that its sacredness and love. Any theory that refuses to accept an attribute of God and his sanctity is antitheism .

Other Uses

Another use of the term anti-theism was issued by New Christopher in an essay published in 1993. In this article, imagine what it might look like arguments for the existence of an evil God: "The anti-theism, like theists, believing in a creator omnipotent, omniscient, and eternal, but while the theists would believe in the existence of a Supreme Being perfectly good, antitheism consider the existence of a god very bad.
