Amin Maalouf ( Arabic : Biography
Born in Beirut, the first years of childhood Amin Maalouf take place yet in Egypt , his adopted home of his maternal grandfather. Back in Lebanon, his family moved into a cosmopolitan Beirut , where they live most of the year, but spend the summer in Machrah, Village of Mount Lebanon which Maalouf originate.
His father is a prominent journalist in Lebanon, also a poet and painter from a family of teachers and school principals. His ancestors, Catholic, converted to Protestantism in the nineteenth century.
Amin's mother comes from a French Catholic family, which has a branch in Istanbul, a city highly symbolic in the imagination of Amin Maalouf, the only one mentioned in each of his works .
Her official blog, as of March 13, 2010, refers to "health problems", without further specification .
He received the Prince of Asturias award 2010 letters .
Influences and inspirations
The author said he was influenced, among others, by the works of Thomas Mann , Albert Camus , Leo Tolstoy , Marguerite Yourcenar , Charles Dickens , Stefan Zweig , and by Omar Khayyam 's poetry and the Arabic language .
Amin Maalouf's novels are marked by his experiences of civil war and immigration. They are characterized (among others) by passengers traveling between lands, languages and religions. In his book The Name of Identity , he outraged human behavior when self-assertion so often goes hand in hand with the denial of the other. Humanist, Amin Maalouf is convinced that we can remain faithful to the values which he is the heir, without being threatened by the belief that other values are carriers.
