Altar Architecture
In the religious sphere, an altar is a table used in sacred ritual sacrifice or deposit offerings. Etymologically, found in the word "altar" two concepts: the height (from Latin altar which gives the Italian altare, both elevation and depth, as in the phrase "high seas") and food (from Latin alere , feed, sustain).

In Europe there is a long time (mainly during the ancient Greek and Roman) a main element dwelling where the family performs its devotions. It takes place gradually in places dedicated to worship with the centralization of it.
It could be intended to make sacrifices.

In religion Shinto where worship of ancestors and deities remains present, it is not uncommon to find a place dedicated to the memory or the worship of ancestors. The domestic altars are also customary among Buddhists.
