Alpheus (New Testament)
Alpheus, the Greek. It is almost always called to clarify what it is about Jacques, Jacques d'Alpheus ( ). We therefore assume that this is his father.
Some assume that Alphe is another version of the name Cleophas.
Alpheus is a city in Mark 2.14, he is the father of Levi , which is probably Matthew (apostle).
New Testament Occurrences
- Matthew 10. 3 : "Philip, and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the publican, Jacques, son of Alpheus, and Thaddaeus;
- Mark 2. 14 : "By the way, he saw Levi, son of Alpheus, sitting at the tolls. He said: Follow me. Levi got up and followed him "
- Mark 3. 18 : "Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, Jacques, son of Alpheus, Thaddeus, Simon the Canaanite"
- Luke 6. 15 : "Matthew, Thomas, Jacques, son of Alpheus and Simon called the Zealot"
- Acts of the Apostles 1. 13 : "When they arrived, they got into the room where they were staying, were Pierre Jean Jacques, Andre Philippe, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, Jacques, son of Alpheus, Simon Zealot, and Judas, son of Jacques'
