Alphanumeric

The characters are a subset of symbols in a directory (charset) as ASCII or Unicode , and include the characters A to Z alphabet representing letters of an alphabet and the digits 0 to 9 including signs positive / negative representative figures.

The characters of punctuation such as point or commas are not alphanumeric characters. They are another subset of the repertoire of symbols.

The term is sometimes used punctuation to indicate any character that is not alphanumeric. In this case, it also includes characters like @. Characters such as or is extended characters and are therefore not included in the set alphanumeric.

Sometimes we use the term alphanumeric as opposed to the term graph to denote the mode of operation of a computer monitor (see Video Graphics Array for an example).

With the correlation between the numbers and letters on the keys of a phone, it is possible to dial a number as well as a word. The different Ascii Codes
