Alexius Iii Byzantine Emperor
Alexis Angel III, Emperor Byzantine (1195-1203), who died in 1210 son of Andronicus Angel and Euphrosyne Kastamonides.
On 8 April 1195 he reversed his brother Isaac II , imprisoning him and put out the eyes. His reign was a series of riots and conspiracies, which complete the ruin of the empire. Whole regions of the empire is lost, their governors taking their independence. From a weak character, Alexis could not stop the irreparable weakening of the empire and the fact that it comes down only to Constantinople.
Shortly after his accession, and to cope with the tribute demanded by the Germanic Emperor Henry VI , he instituted a special tax which he completed in pulling all the precious ornaments of the imperial tombs of the Church of the Holy Apostles.
In 1204 , Constantinople fell victim to the Fourth Crusade , led by the Republic of Venice , who had been persuaded by Alexius IV , the son of Isaac II, Alexius III reverse to restore his father 18 August 1203.
After the creation of the Latin Empire, he fled to Thrace , where he outlines a resistance, then goes into Asia Minor. It poses problems for his son Theodore I Lascaris , who has been crowned emperor of Nicaea in 1208. Theodore then imprisons him, and he remains in prison until his death.
