Alexandretta ( Turkish : is a city in southern Turkey. It was founded by Alexander the Great to commemorate the victory at the Battle of Issus in 333 BC. BC , Alexander Iskandar meaning Persian.
Minor called Alexandria or Alexandria Issum ad during the ancient times , it is time the Crusader States in the principality of Antioch and the fourteenth she fell to the kings of Cyprus. In the sixteenth century the city was captured by the Ottomans and annexed to the province of Syria. At the collapse of the Ottoman Empire after 1918 , Alexandretta not part of Turkey but is controlled by the French Mandate in Syria. In 1938 , the case of Sandzak Alexandretta attaches to Turkey.
