Albert Vanhoye, born 24 July 1923 to Hazebrouck in the North of France , is a cardinal French, Jesuit and professor emeritus of Holy Scripture at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome.
Summary |
At the end of his humanities in small seminar Hazebrouck (1934-41) Albert Vanhoye entered the Society of Jesus in 1941. After a degree in classical literature, studies of philosophy Scholastic to Vals-prs-le-Puy , then theology at Enghien ( Belgium ), he was ordained priest on 25 July 1954 at Enghien. Sent to Rome for a Licentiate in Sacred Scripture there was also a PhD on the composition of the Hebrews.
Education and Research
Albert Vanhoye first taught at a Jesuit seminary in Chantilly , but was quickly called to Rome where he taught from 1963 to 1998, when he was admitted to emeritus status. Besides teaching he directed 29 doctoral dissertations. He specialized in the exegesis of Hebrews where he became one of the world's leading experts. He was also Dean of Bible (1969-75), editor of the journal Biblica (1978-84), Rector of the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome (1984-1990). Since 1980 he directed the collection of monographs biblical Analecta Biblica.
Cardinal
Benedict XVI has created cardinal in the consistory of 24 March 2006 with the title of cardinal-deacon of Santa Maria della Mercede e Sant'Adriano at Villa Albani.
