Albert Houtin

Houtin Albert (born 4. X. 1867 to Sartre, near La Fleche , in the Sarthe - died in 1926 in Paris ) was a religious and a French philosopher, actively involved in the Modernist crisis which shook the Church in the early twentieth century. His ideas far ahead of their time, will lead his excommunication.

Biography

Student's minor seminary of Angers , Albert Houtin was a Benedictine novice at Solesmes before becoming a priest of the Diocese of Angers in 1901. He was immediately appointed professor of history at the small seminary. His research on the origin of the diocese and St. Rene, who was the first bishop, brought him serious trouble with his bishop and took him to Paris , where he came gradually in connection with the main representatives of the movement modernist.

Priest and philosopher, Albert Houtin was a historian of Catholicism French, which he wrote many books. His vision will make him a modernist, with his friend Alfred Loisy. There will be a priest until 1909 , when he will be excommunicated too modern for his vision of the Church. He later became director of the educational museum in Paris.

Note also his two nephews, Louis Courtois , resistant , and Albert Courtois , who will defend for their lives, ideas and work of their uncle. His vision of the Church will be applied during Vatican II. His brother died during the First World War , and it will give his thoughts a more humanistic yet. After his death, two books that trace his life will be published by his disciples.

Albert Houtin is the great uncle of Thomas Courtois-Repace , a man of culture.
