Biography
Alan Parker began his career in the advertising world. In the late 1960s , while working for the London agency Collet Dickinson Pearce, he wrote his first scenario . Indeed, Midnight Express is also known for its history - that of an American sentenced to 30 years in prison for hashish trafficking - as for its music composed by Giorgio Moroder .
Parker began the 1980s with two films on the subject of music, fame in 1980 , twice Oscar winner, and Pink Floyd The Wall , visual adaptation of the album The Wall of the English of Pink Floyd .
In 1984, he recounts in Birdy the story of two friends, veterans of the Vietnam War , one of which continues the dream of flying. The film was a success and won in 1985 the Grand Special Jury Prize at Cannes.
In the late 1980s, he directed several films committed to content, very impressive in their themes and their implementation. He fights through his camera against the death penalty with The Life of David Gale in 2003 and against segregation of any kind with Mississippi Burning in 1988 and Welcome to Paradise in 1990. It also revives the music world in 1996 with the musical Evita , written by Oliver Stone and starring Madonna .
In 1991 , he joined the jury of the Cannes Film Festival and in 2002 he became Sir Alan Parker receiving Prince Charles 's insignia Knight , .
Parker also tried his hand at writing with the publication in 2008 by Sid Vicious, the punk icon, a book on the bassist of the Sex Pistols , Sid Vicious .
