Al-Qurtubi and Imam Abu 'Abdullah Al-Qurtubi or Abu' Abdullah Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Abu Bakr al-Ansari al-Qurtubi (Arabic: ) d (1214 - 1273) is a famous classical scholar Sunni belonging to the School Maliki.

Biography

He was born in Cordoba in Spain and was an eminent Maliki , specializing in fiqh and hadith.

Many Muslims argue that the breadth and depth of his research is evident in his writings.

The most famous among them is his twenty-volume Tafsir al-Jami 'li-al-Qur'an Ahkm.

He died in 1273 at Munya Abi'l-Khusavb in Egypt.

Views

It is particularly cited for his theory of the reality of possession by the jinn and demons (Satan).

Commenting on verse 275 of the Qur'an (al-Baqara), he wrote this verse contains the evidence against those who deny the possession by Jinn, claiming that it is the result of natural causes and those who claim that the Devil does not get rights.
