Abu Zakariya Yahya ( ) is the Hafsid sultan of Tunis between 1228 and September 1249 .
He is the son of Abu Muhammad `Abd al-Wahid ibn Abi Hafs who founded the dynasty Hafsids and that Almohads entrusted the direction of the Ifriqiya to better address the nomadic Hilalian in the region. After his brother `Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Abi Hafs took power and proclaimed the independence of the throne, Abu Zakariya Yahya dethrone him and to enjoy one of power, force her other brother just the title of shaikh and to devote himself to religious life.
In 1228 , he established his capital at Tunis and then extends its domination to Constantine , Bougie and Algiers ( 1235 ) and even threatens Tlemcen in 1242. He submits various tribes and rebels is a kingdom which covers the Maghreb , thus restoring the ancient kingdom of Zirids of the late tenth century. Abu Abd Allah Muhammad al-Mustansir succeeded him until his death in September 1249.
Among the tall buildings in Tunis by the sovereign are the Kasbah mosque (built 1231 to 1235 ) and madrasah Ech Chamaiya (built during the first half of the thirteenth century) .
