Abu Yusuf Yaqub Bin Abd Al Haqq

Abu Yusuf Ya `qub ibn` Abd al-Haqq ( Arabic : , Abu Yusuf Ya `qub ibn` Abd al-Haqq) was born on an unknown date. A son of Abu Yahya , the former sultan Marinid , claimed to succeed his father, but it was his uncle Abu Yusuf Ya `qub, fourth son of Abd al-Haqq, who succeeded him in 1258. He died of illness at Algeciras in 1286.

History

The beginning of his reign was marked by new dynastic quarrels. One of his nephews seized Sal , which allowed to occupy this Castilian city in September 1260 , Abu Yusuf Ya `qub not retaken the town after a siege of two weeks. The Spanish intervention revived the desire to lead the fight against Christians, but he first had to consolidate the situation in Morocco.

A first attempt to take Marrakech failed in 1262. He negotiated with his opponent Almohad Abu Dabbs who took Marrakesh in 1266. Abu Dabbs immediately broke the alliance and urged the abdelwadide Yaghmorasan to attack Abu Yusuf Ya `qub in the rear. Abu Yusuf Ya `qub defeated this new adversary in 1268 and returned to the seat he took in Marrakech in September 1269. He then proclaimed Muslim prince (amir al-Muslimin) not to take the title of prince of believers caliph (amir al-Muminin).

Abu Yusuf Ya `qub back to the Spanish Atlantic coast of Morocco to Tangier ( 1273 ). In 1274 he took the town of Sijilmassa came under the control of Yaghmorasan. It was during this siege that Abu Ya `qub Yusuf allegedly used for the first time in the artillery.

A request for assistance from Muslim Granada made him abandon his conquests in Moroccan territory to cover in Spain. During this successful expedition, the governor of Marrakech led a campaign against the last Almohad ( 1275 ). To celebrate these victories and forget the repression of 1250 during the preceding reign, he built a new city near Fez. This new city is more like a new neighborhood in Fez Fez is called Nova (Fez al-Jdid) versus the Old Fes (Fez al-Bali).

After a fourth expedition to Spain and died of illness at Algeciras ( 1286 ).
