Abu-Musa Abd-Allah ibn Qays al-Ash'ari, better known as Abu Musa al-Ashari ( Arabic : ) (d. 662 or 672) was a companion of Muhammad , the prophet of Islam and an important figure in its history. He was governor of Basra and Kufa and took part at the beginning of the Muslim conquest of Persia. There was also an important player during the troubles of the caliphate of Ali ibn Abi Talib (d. 661). The famous Imam Abu al-Hasan al-Ash'ari is one of its descendants.
