Abu Muhammad Abd Al Haqq

Abu Muhammad 'Abd al-Haqq History

`Abd al-Haqq was a year when his father died in 1421. The regency was in the hands of the family of Banu Wattas.

Regency Emir Abu Zakariya Yahya

The first ruler was Abu Zakariya Yahya ( 1420 - 1448 ).

After the failure of a Portuguese expedition against Tangier ( 1437 ), King of Portugal had agreed to deliver Ceuta hostage and gave his brother Ferdinand. Pushed by Pope, Edward I of Portugal (Duarte I) preferred to sacrifice his brother rather than his place of business. The infant captive to Fez for six years died ( 1443 ). The Church beatified him in 1470 by considering it as a martyr for the faith Catholic.

Regency Amir 'Ali ibn Yusuf

`Abd al-Haqq was still only nine years old when 'Ali ibn Yusuf took over Abu Zakariya Yahya Wattassides as emir in 1448 until 1458.

After the capture of Constantinople by the Turkish Ottomans in 1453 , King of Portugal Alfonso V had prepared an army to start a crusade at the invitation of the pope. He finally chose to turn his force against a small port located between Tangier and Ceuta. He managed to take the place ( 1458 ).

End of the emirs Wattassides

Yahya ibn Abi Zakariya Yahya bin 'Ali succeeded as emir Yusuf Wattassides in 1458.

In 1459 , Abd al-Haqq, now grown, turned against the regent and his family. He massacred, only two brothers survived, including the one in 1472 became the first sultan Wattassides. `Abd al-Haqq fails to properly fulfill his duties as sultan. Anarchy moved around the kingdom.

In Marrakech , which already escaped twenty years of control Merinids witnessed the development of a Sufi name Al-Jazuli. The latter had gathered an army of 13,000 faithful and covered the country zaouias.

End of the dynasty Marinid

We suspect Abd al-Haqq to have killed al-Jazuli, and he was accused of having a Jewish minister, Haroon Bettache. During a popular revolt in Fez , `Abd al-Haqq was slaughtered like a sacrificial animal ( 1465 ). An Arab Idrisid took the opportunity to have himself proclaimed Imam as his ancestor. The country then entered a period of anarchy until 1472.

During this period, and after several attempts, Alfonso V has finally managed to take advantage of disturbances in Tangier Fez ( 1471 ).

Resumption of power by the sultans Wattassides

One survivor of the massacre of 1459 , Abu Abd Allah al-Shaykh Muhammad bin Yahya Fez returned and installed the sultans Wattassides in 1572.
