Abu al-Hasan 'Ali ( Abu al-Hasan bin `` Aliye umn) was born in 1299 or 1288. Abu al-Hasan succeeded his father Abu Sa'id Uthman in 1331 as Sultan Merinid. He died in 1351.
History
In order to drive the Christians of Spain and unite the Islamic countries of North Africa, he attacked and captured Algeciras and Gibraltar in 1333.
He had to reckon with his rebellious brother who held the Saharan side of the Atlas in the Dra Valley with its capital Sijilmasa. He overcame this problem that allowed him to consider the conquest of territories further east. He took the Abdalwadides City Tlemcen after a siege of three years in 1337.
He won 5 April 1340 a naval battle in the Strait of Gibraltar, but was defeated six months later at the Battle of Rio Salado forcing him to abandon his views on Spain.
Although he was married to the daughter of Sultan Hafsid Abu Yahya Abu Bakr , he took Tunis September 15, 1347, but clashed with Arab Kairouan.
Fleeing Tunisia by sea, he landed in Algeria and was facing a rebellion led by his son Abu Inan Faris, abandoned by his troops, he abdicated and withdrew to the south of the Atlas in Morocco where he died of an infected wound May 24, 1351.
His kingdom is the height of the dynasty Moroccan Merinids.
