Abu Al Ala Idris Al Mamun

Abu al-`Ala 'Idris al-Ma'mun ( Abu al-` the al-Ma'mun ibn idris al-Mansur) was born on an unknown date. Brother Abu Muhammad al-`Adil , he was with Yahya al-Mu `tasim one of two contenders to succeed him as caliph Almohad in 1227. He died on 16 or 17 October 1232 History

The civil war between two contenders for the succession of Abu Muhammad al-`Adil allowed the Spanish Christian monarchs to intervene in the affairs of the Maghreb. King Ferdinand III of Castile supplies to al-Ma'mun 12 000 riders to go seize Marrakech. Al-Ma'mun took Marrakech and massacred the sheikhs who had supported his rival Yahya al-Mu `tasim.

He repudiated the doctrine of the Mahdi in favor of Sunni Islam. Payment assistance from the King of Castile he agreed to build a church of Notre-Dame in Marrakech ( 1230 ) (it was destroyed soon 1232). These actions and denials of al-Ma'mun provoked a violent reaction against Almohad.

The Castile had no opponent in Spain except the small kingdoms and autonomous sultanate Nazari of Granada.

While Al-Ma'mun was conducting a seat in Ceuta , spurned his rival Yahya al-Mu `tasim took the opportunity to resume Marrakech. Al-Ma'mun died on the way back to Marrakech.
