Abd Al Haqq
`Abd al-Haqq ( ` Abd al-Haqq ibn al-miy marny) was born on an unknown date. Eponymous dynasty Merinids. He died in 1217.
History
The new Caliph Almohad , Yusuf al-Mustansir (circa 1215) was young and Almohad dynasty had to weather a severe defeat against Spain at Las Navas de Tolosa (July 1212). The Banu Marin saw this as an opportunity to attack. The Almohad sent 10,000 men, the battle took place on the coast of Rif , it was a rout for Almohads. Reinforcements from Arab and Berber nomads still clashed with Bani Marin, near Fez. This was another defeat for the Almohad, but `Abd al-Haqq was mortally wounded (1217). Mrinides took possession of the Rif and seemed to want to stay there. This was contrary to the Almohads who took the initiative in vain against attacks.
