- July : Battle of the Margus in Moesia. Assassination of Carin by a tribune. Diocletian emperor remains alone. He gives himself a colleague in Milan , Maximian , and shares with him the purple Nicomedia. The Roman Empire is divided in two.
- Diocletian defending the frontier of the Danube.
- Insurgency Bagaudes in Gaul. They are peasants, settlers, slaves driven to rebellion by poverty and fiscal pressure. Led by Aelianus then Amandus , they ravaged the country and sacked the city of Autun.
